Chemicals and its Relation to Cancer
The mind is one of the greatest
gifts of God to every human. It enables us to think, to do our work with
efficiency and to know the logic of every situation. In fact, the fruits and
products of greatest minds in the world can be seen everywhere. This includes
the synthetic chemicals that are present in many items we use on a daily basis.
From the
moment that you open your eyes in the morning until you close them at night, you
are actually with these chemicals. Indeed, man has no satisfaction. As the
leaves are falling from the trees, man seeks informations and makes inventions
which he believes can provide him a quality and a better way of living. Mostly,
these things are made up of chemicals and we are being engage to them
gradually. But what are the effects of these chemicals on our bodies? Is there
a link between some chemicals and the huge increase in cancer and other illness?
Though
our bodies are highly efficient in breaking down and expelling toxins from our
system, there’s still a need for us to be concerned. Recently, testicular
cancer has increased by 300% and childhood cancers have increased by 26% since
1971. It is a sad fact that every child born today has a host of chemicals in
its body. Why? It is because the human body is at the top of the food chain,
absorbing a lifetime of chemicals from its mother’s body before birth and her
milk after birth. This is being believed to be a factor in the rise of
miscarriages.
Artificial musk was tagged as a “chemical of high concern.” It is present in
washing powders, fabric conditioners, deodorants and other household items that
we use on a daily basis. You may be wondering how this chemical makes its way
back into our bodies. Well, follow this one: The water that you used in your
daily washing makes its way to the treatment works. Of course, that water
contains artificial musk because of the washing powder that you used. From
here, it will pass into rivers and either lie in the mud or pass out to sea,
because ¾ of the surface of the world is made up of water, there’s a high
probability that it will pass out to the bodies of water. Then small creatures
will ingest this. As the larger fish eat the smaller fish, it consumes the
chemicals ingested by the smaller one. The artificial musk then will remain in
its body fats. So when we eat the fish, we also consume its chemical content.
Furthermore, the sludge from treatment works is spread onto farmland and
consumed by cows from which we get milk, butter, cheese, etc. This chemical is
then added to the level of artificial musk we already have in our bodies and is
passed on to our children.
Many of
the chemical in products we use everyday have not had their safety property
assessed. And because there are chemicals that are more dangerous when they are
being combined to other chemicals contained in our bodies, it’s really a danger
when this is not being properly assessed.
There’s
now a list of chemicals that the European Union classes as of “very high
concern.” But then, manufacturing industries are still being allowed to include
the chemicals in their products, that’s why these chemicals are still present in
everyone’s home. Although there are safer alternative available, manufactures
are not being put under any pressure to change the chemicals they use. Until
Government introduces legislation to force these companies into action, it is
down to the public. There are actions provided by the Greenpeace website that
the public can take to levy pressure against these manufacturers.
The
Government is encouraging scientists to find a cure for cancer. It seems that
officials do not believe that prevention is much better than cure. More often
than not, the blame is being put at the sufferer’s lifestyle, but how can this
take into account the huge rise in childhood cancers?
Between
conception and birth is the most susceptible time for exposure to cancer causing
substances or carcinogens. The results of these exposure may materialized
immediately like birth defects or not until much later in life in the form of
testicular cancer.
It does
not take a genius to realize the effects of chemicals on our environment and our
bodies. Aside from Cancer, many illnesses such as asthma and allergies are
experiencing a huge surge in detection and unless we can force the government
and manufacturers to act, this trend looks set to continue.
The
government seems to run by the assumption that all chemicals are safe until
proven otherwise. It is true that synthetic chemicals really made a great way
to success when it comes to industry and other aspects of our lives. But much
safer alternatives are just around the corners! Should we have to sacrifice the
lives of the many for the dreams of a few?
